Mallika Sarabhai to perform in Kozhikode for women’s justice
The renowned dancer and social activist is in the city to perform a specially-choreographed theme dance, “Women with Broken Wings” as part of International Women’s Day celebrations Friday organized under the aegis of the Department for Social Justice, Kerala. She will be accompanied by Swiss pianist Elizabeth Sombart.
In response to statistics showing that Kerala, the state with the highest literacy rate, was becoming the state with the fastest growing sex crimes, Sarabhai told reporters in the capital that “for a state that had a strong matriarchal system, this is totally unacceptable”.
The artists have dedicated the show to the memory of the billion women tortured, maimed, raped, aborted and killed across the world.
Government to form Forward Class Commission

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress-led UDF government will form a Forward Class Commission to cater to the educational needs of the economically weaker sections among the forward communities.
Chief Minister Ommen Chandy Wednesday told reporters after a cabinet meeting that the state government has decided to form a Forward Class Commission as a permanent statutory body.
He said the Law Department would be asked to work out the details regarding the composition and powers of the proposed commission.
According to officials, the body is meant for advising the government on issues like possible support for education of the economically weaker sections among the forward communities.
